Our weekly series of financing projects try to find the most innovative and practical projects through Kickstarter, Indiegogo and Other websites that you can back up. This is because some of the coolest new technologies these days, such as the Pebble Smart Watch and Oculus Rift Valley Virtual Reality headset, are not from big companies but from Kickstarter. This week, we saw that the TouchPico Indiegogo Android projector can turn any surface into a Touch Screen, and it is starting a $55,000 grant for a 24-hour project on Saturday.
The TouchPico is a pocket projector, according to the project's page, it is the same size as the Samsung Galaxy S4, slightly heavier. The projector will use Android 4.2 and support microSD memory card. It can be used to project 80-inch images, but what's really interesting is that with a dedicated stylus, you can use the monitor just like a touch screen. The stylus, which is quite large, looks a bit like a pencil and uses infrared detection technology to track the stylus. The stylus has a small IR emitter that is tracked by the projector and accurately calculated where it touches the screen.
In addition, the TouchPico is like any Android device and it is recommended that you use it as a giant Android tablet. You can download the application from Google Play, chat on the project's web phone, or use it to display the presentation. It can also be used for games, although this requires multiple touch inputs, or the use of tilt functionality, the game will not be able to use. Gestures like magnified web pages also don't work.
Despite these limitations, it is easy to see many different scenarios, of which TouchPico will be very useful. Watching movies, simple games, like Angry Birds, and even more complex games, single-touch input is all that's needed, such as rebuilding comes to mind, and of course, this will be very useful for demos. The deadline for the financing activities is August 26, and the shipping plan starts from October 15 to 30.
